Brass vs Stainless Steel Test Sieves

Frame and sieving-media material can affect handling, corrosion resistance, cleaning and service life. The correct choice depends on the sample, test method, laboratory environment and how frequently the sieve will be used.

Brass-frame laboratory sieves

Brass frames are widely used for routine laboratory sieving and provide a rigid, traditional construction. Our listed 8-inch configuration uses a polished brass frame and can be supplied with fine stainless-steel wire mesh or coarse perforated-plate openings, depending on the required aperture.

Stainless-steel construction

Stainless steel is commonly selected where corrosion resistance, durability or repeated cleaning is important. A stainless-steel frame may be preferred for demanding environments, while stainless-steel wire mesh is also commonly used as the sieving medium in fine-aperture laboratory sieves.

Which material should you choose?

Mixed construction is common

A brass frame with stainless-steel wire mesh is a practical laboratory configuration, so the decision is not always simply brass versus stainless steel. The frame and the sieving medium should be specified separately when necessary.
