The meter works on the acetylene gas generation principle. Calcium carbide reacts with moisture in the sample and produces acetylene gas inside a sealed pressure vessel.
The resulting pressure is measured on a calibrated gauge to determine moisture content.
A measured sample is mixed with the specified calcium carbide reagent inside the pressure vessel. The vessel is shaken to ensure mixing, and the generated pressure is then read on the calibrated gauge.
